While the European media praise the Chinese website Alibaba.com to the skies, a darker reality targets Europe.
Those Chinese websites look slightly like Amazon. They pretend to have warehouses (hubs) based in Europe but it is a lie. They also mention on their website that the delivery will be
When a European customer orders a product from a Chinese website, they receive the shipment after one or two months. That’s the shipment duration to bring your delivery from a Chinese port to Europe or USA by container vessel. In fact, it takes 1 month to reach USA or Europe from China by boat.
How do they make you accept the very long duration time?
After you order, they block your order by making you believe that they have to check your identity and your bank details. By doing it, they give you a reason to wait. They just want to save time. Unfortunately, we also witnessed the same scam technique from fake Chinese e-commerce websites.
What to do?
There is nothing you can do because those companies are located in China. Nevertheless, you can drop a comment on trustpilot.com or trustpilot.co.uk. I do encourage you not to leave the number of your order otherwise, they will personally contact you to buy your silence. Nevertheless, this is not going to speed up your delivery and it is not going to guarantee that you will receive something anyway.
If they ask you to send your credit card details in a screenshot to check your identity after payment, think twice. You may make the situation worse than it is. Chinese people can use your credit card details in 6 months or 1 year.
How to prevent this situation in the future?
Nevertheless trust a Facebook ad, a Google ad or a Wikipedia.
In Europe, companies have to publish their name, their real address (not a PO box), their contact details. A license number can also be helpful. Nevertheless, I have found that the most useful was to check the address of the company using google street views. You can also type the address in Google. If you see that several companies have the same address, it means they are offshore companies with a virtual office. Let me explain to you how it works. An umbrella company registers other companies at one location. The umbrella company also receives and transfers the mails to the other companies.
Consequently be careful when you order at:
Share your online e-commerce shops from China in the comment. (Please be courteous).
