We have noticed several ads on the Romanian classified ads website publi24.ro where young women were looking for a financial support in the dating category ads on publi24.ro. We identified several European countries where some women were looking for this type of relationship. There were Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian women first, and British and Norwegian women to a lesser extent.
For sure, the sugar babies/daddies is another form of prostitution. In fact, it is a mid-term prostitution relationship. It is about exchanging sex against money. Be aware we aren’t here to judge prostitution. We just want to call a spade a spade.
However, after investigating we discovered this relationship was more a fake news from the media rather than a real phenomenon. We asked some Romanian women to tell us whether or not they were successful in finding a sugar daddy and they told us they were unable to find any man who wanted to pay for their studies. Then, we asked men aged 40+ to tell us what they thought about sugar daddies and they told us it was a synonym for being scammed. Also, many of them are scared of being blackmailed by young women who could sue them for alleged sexual harassment or rape in order to get more money. Those men also reported that those young ladies are troublemakers. One single man in his fifties said that he used to hire escort on a short-term basis depending on where he was located for 12 hours so that he could only benefit from the situation without any downsides.
Against all odds, the sugar daddy phenomenon is on the decline. We wonder whether it is related to the rise of instant accessibility of women. Even if the sugar daddy benefits from a media coverage, there are less older men who accept to financially support young women in the long term.
